How to Keep Your Vegetables and Fruits to Make them Last Longer



Nobody wants to waste food. Have you ever had some vegetables and stored it in the vegetable bin in your fridge and after sometime its already rotten? have you ever placed some fruits on your table top and it gets spoiled in a few days? Most of the time, we think that putting vegetables and fruits in the fridge makes it last longer. But that is not necessarily the case. Lucky for you, we have complied a list of how you need to store your fruits and vegetables to make them last a bit longer.




There are a lot of guides out there on how to keep your vegetables and fruits. So we have compiled these list for you.

Vegetables

Tomatoes – Make sure to always keep at room temperature.
    

Cucumbers – Wrap the fresh cucumbers in a moist towel and refrigerate.
    

Peppers – Store these in a ziplock bag and keep it in the fridge and it can last up to two weeks.

Green Beans – Keep these beans humid but not wet. Drape a damp cloth over them.
    

Carrots – Store these in a closed container and wrapped in a damp towel. DIp it in cold water every few days. Cut of the tops when you want to use.
    

Squash – You can keep these at room temperature but not on direct sunlight.
   

Peas – Put these in an open container and refrigerate.
    

Onions – Keep in a well ventilated place out of direct sunlight. place.
    

Broccoli – Store in the fridge: either wrapped in a damp towel or in an open container.
    

Corn – Always leave these in the husk until ready to be consumed. Keep the corn refrigerated but make sure to consume sooner than later for best taste..
    
Garlic – You should keep these away from damp and humid area. Make sure to keep away from direct sunlight.

Celery – You can wrap these in a foil and place in the fridge or put in a bowl with shallow water.
    

Lettuce – You should keep these in airtight container and put keep them damp and refrigerated.
    
Potatoes – You should keep these in  a dark and dry place. You can also keep them in a clean brown paper bag.

Fruits

Bananas – You should separate these bananas with each other and store in a well ventilated basket.

    
Apples – Keep away from heat, and these will last for about two weeks. For much longer storage, place in a cardboard box and refrigerate.
    

Grapes – These should be kept in the fridge, but only wash them when you want to consume to avoid mushiness.
    
Peaches – You can put in a fridge when ripe.
    

Pears – Place in a  cool environment without direct sunlight. Putting in a brown paper bag is best. Pears will last for a few weeks on the counter.
    

Watermelon – Ripe watermelon should be sliced and put in a fridge on an airtight container. They should last for several days.

Pineapples – You can put the whole pineapple in the fridge. Sliced pineapple should be placed in an airtight container, also keep refrigerated.
    

Strawberries –  Make sure to keep these dry. Refrigerated strawberries placed in a brown paper bag will keep for a week if the bag is kept dry and clean.
    

Oranges – DOn't keep refrigerated for a long time, oranges lose their juiciness when refrigerated. Just place in a ventilated basket away from direct sunlight.
    

Cherries – Same as strawberries, keep it dry and in an airtight container. DO not wash until you are ready to eat them..

Plums – You should keep at room temperature until they are ripe, and then place them in the refrigerator in a clean container.
    

Blueberries – You should keep it in a dry container and refrigerated. Wash them when you are ready to eat them, otherwise mold will form quickly.
